Bakersfield National Cemetery

Glen/Mar completed a competitive bid construction project that provided general contractor expertise and supervision for all construction aspects of the Bakersfield National Cemetery. This project was scheduled to complete in mid July and completed 6 weeks ahead of schedule. Glen/Mar's scope of work included the construction of the Administrative and Maintenance buildings, roads, walks, grading, drainage, mechanical and electrical work, equipment installation, utility systems, irrigation, water well drilling (700'), landscaping and the installation of 4000 pre-cast concrete crypts. The demolition and removal of existing structures was also included in Glen/Mar's scope.

The new building construction included an Administrative Office Building, a Personal Information Center, the Facilities Maintenance Building, and two (2) Vehicle and Equipment Storage Buildings. Total new building construction was 14,000 square feet. Each of the buildings required the installation of electrical systems consisting of: Security/Surveillance Systems; Fire/Smoke Detection and Alarms; IT Wiring and Fiber Optic Cables; and Intrusion Alarms.

The pre-cast concrete crypt fields were approximately 5.5 acres (240,000 square feet) and required the excavation of 55,000 CY of overburden. The crypt installation required very tight tolerances that are comparable to new building construction tolerances.
